John Dinsmore was a Ballymena woollen manufacturer. He was a County Councillor and a member of the Liberal Party. He originally believed that Home Rule should go ahead but exclude the North East of the country.
However over time he came to advocate complete Home Rule. He believed that local anti Home Rulers like John Young of Galgorm Castle were against Home Rule purely for self interest and the desire to further their own wealth. He spoke out at the Protestant Home Rule meeting in Ballymoney in October 1913.
He accused the local linen industrialists of encouraging sectarianism amongst their workers to distract them from the 'poverty wages' they were paid.
